What is Network Marketing

What is network marketing, exactly?

It depends on who you talk to.

I’m serious!

Talk to someone who joined a network marketing opportunity, learned the ropes, took action and went on to build a wildly successful business that pays them a solid six-figure, even multiple six-figure annual business and they will tell you:

“Network marketing is the greatest opportunity in the history of mankind for the average person without a lot of money to invest to become financially free.”

Talk to someone who has joined a few different opportunities over the years but who never really got in and “did the work” required to build a business and they might say something like this:

“Network marketing doesn’t work. The only people who make big money are the people who get in early.”

So who is right? And if you think about it,  neither really answers the question: “What is network marketing?”

What is Network Marketing?

According to Wikipedia, network marketing is way of doing business in which a sales force earns a commmission not only for sales of products and services they personally generate, but also for the sales of others they recruit and bring into the business, which creates a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple leveraged levels of compensation.

Whew. What a mouthful. Let’s break that down into something that makes more sense, shall we?

You realize you will never get rich working for someone else. You also know there are huge lifestyle benefits associated with building a success business:

  • You can pick the people you work with.
  • You can work from home part-time in your spare time.
  • You can pick the hours you work and how much you work.
  • You can give yourself an IMMEDIATE raise through tax savings.
  • You have the chance to literally set yourself financially free.

So you decide to investigate joining a network marketing company because of the low cost of entry and all the training and support you get. But what are you really getting yourself into? What is network marketing, exactly? Here’s the deal…

When you join a network marketing company you are “signing up” to represent that company’s product and services and business opportunity.

You “sign up” by making a small investment (usually $500 to $1,500) and by completing an Independent Distributor agreement. You are not being hired by the company as an employee but, rather, you are volunteering to represent the company as an independent contractor, business owner, dealer, representative or consultant. You are awarded a commission based upon the volume of product sold through your own sales efforts as well as that of their downline organization.

In other words, to make money you need to personally sell stuff AND teach your team to sell stuff because you earn commissions on the AMOUNT of product that moves through your new business.

What is Network Marketing? Think Franchise!

Consider a franchise operation like McDonald’s.

McDonald’s is one of the largest fastfood organizations in the world. They have more than 33,000 restaurants that serves more than 64 million people in 118 countries each day.

More than 80% of MacD’s restaurants are owned and operated by independent business owners or contractors.

Now if YOU owned the mother-ship corporation, you not only earn money by selling burgers, fries and shakes from the 20% of the restaurants YOU personally own and operate… you also earn a tiny percentage on all the sales made by the entire organization including the other 80% you do not own or operation. Meaning you are now earning a LEVERAGED income generated by the time, talent and energy expended by the other business owners on your team.

Here’s another way to look at it…

Let’s say you earn a $100 commission for selling a particular product and it takes you two hours of “work” to make a sale. Break that down and your time is worth $50 per hour. Put in a full 40 hour work week and you pocket a nice $2,000.

Let’s also say you have spent some time “recruiting” a few people to join your team who also want the chance to earn $100 per sale and you earn a nice $10 check for every sale THEY make.

Over time you have built a team of 100 people. They each make 20 sales per week – independent of your time and effort.

  • YOU = 40 hours, 20 sales, $2,000
  • TEAM = 4000 hours, 2,000 sales @ $10 each = you get $20,000

See the magic? You get paid on the time and effort of other people. This is leveraged income versus linear income.

So perhaps a good way to answer the question: “What is network marketing?” would be quote J. Paul Getty, one of the richest men in his time:

I’d rather have one percent of the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent of my own efforts.

What is Network Marketing? The Reality…

Here’s the unfortunately reality, however.

No matter how you slice it, the only way you will ever build a highly profitable network marketing business is to be willing to MASTER the art and science of sales, marketing and leadership. Because MLM is form of “direct sales” and no one makes a dime until products and services are sold. It’s that way in every business, not just network marketing.

So the KEY is to join a company, track down who is currently enjoying a level of success you aspire for, find out what they are doing… and simply be willing to DO the same things. Which, of course, may require you learn new skills and actually a few things (sales and marketing) you are not comfortable doing in the beginning. So what is network marketing?

  • Network marketing is a leadership development platform.

7 Tips for Network Marketing Success

You probably have an image firmly planted in your mind of what network marketing (also known as direct sales or multilevel marketing) is all about--housewives buying and selling Tupperware while gossiping and eating finger sandwiches, or a high-pressure salesperson trying to convince you how easily you can become a millionaire if only you and your friends and their friends and so on would buy and sell vitamins with him.

Both of these images couldn't be further from the reality of network marketing. It's neither a hobby nor a get-rich-scheme but an opportunity for you to earn money running your own part- or full-time business.

But what does it take to succeed in this industry? Vincent J. Kellsey, director of member services for the Direct Selling Women's Alliance, an organization that provides a variety of resources to women and men in the direct-selling industry, offers these tips for making it:

Choose wisely. There are six key elements you should be looking for [when selecting an opportunity]. Number one: stability. How old is the company? Number two is excellent products or services that consumers will use and need more of.

Number three is the pay plan--how even and fair and generous overall is the distribution? This is really crucial as the pay plan represents exactly how you'll get paid--or not get paid. There are really only two questions to ask [regarding this]: How many pennies out of each sales dollar get paid back to the distributors each month, and how fair is the distribution of these pennies between the old members and the new members?

Number four is the integrity of the company and the management. As much as possible, [investigate] the experience of the CEO, [their] experience in the network marketing industry, and their background. [Have] they been successful in other companies in the industry? Do they have a good reputation?

Number five is momentum and timing. Look at where the company's at, what's going on with the company, and if it's growing.

Number six is support, training and business systems. You may have [chosen] a great company with excellent management, products that make a difference, a pay plan that's uniquely fair and very generous, and momentum and stability, but if you don't have a system in place that works, all of that [doesn't matter]. Most companies will have a transferable training system that they use, and that's where mentorship comes in.

Practice what they teach. [To succeed,] you need to be willing to listen and learn from mentors. The way this industry is structured, it's in the best interests of the [MLM veterans in your company] to help you succeed, so they're willing to teach you the system. Whatever [your mentor] did to become successful, it's very duplicatible, but you have to be willing to listen and be taught and follow those systems.

The higher-ups. It can be called various things, but the general term is the "upline," meaning the people above you. How supportive are they? Do they call you? Do they help you put a plan in place? Are they as committed to your success as they are to their own? You should be able to relate to [the people in your upline] and be able to call them at any time to say "I need some help." How much support there is from the people above you in the company is very important.

Take up the lead with your downline.There's a term in the network marketing industry called "orphans"--when somebody is brought in and then the person who brought them in is just so busy bringing in other people that they don't spend the time to teach and train [the new person]. You should be prepared to spend at least 30 days helping a new person come into the industry--training them, supporting them and holding their hand until they feel confident to be able to go off on their own. You really need to ask yourself, are you willing to do that? Are you able to do that? This is really about long-term relationship building. It's not about just bringing people into the business and just moving forward. It's about working with these people and helping them to develop relationships.

On the net. People are utilizing [the internet] as their main marketing tool. [You can set up your site] with autoresponders so when you capture leads, the autoresponder can follow up with that person. One of the greatest keys to success in this industry is follow-up. Many people will have someone call them who's interested or they'll call the person and say they're interested, but then they don't follow up with it. Automation on the internet has allowed a much more consistent method of following up.

The only drawback with the internet is people who utilize it to spam. If there was one thing I could put forward to say, "Do not do" when utilizing the internet as a marketing tool, it's spamming because that can give a very bad reputation not only to you but also to the company you're working with.

Taking care of business. This is a business, and just like if you were running a franchise or a storefront, you [should have an] accountant. You have all the same write-offs tax-wise that you have with running a [full-time] business, so it's very important to [do your research] prior to getting involved, before you start making money from it. How is that going to affect you tax-wise? What are your write-offs?

It's important to set up a [support] team around you. I'd suggest seeking out lawyers who deal in network marketing, so they're very versed in all the laws and how that affects [your business.]. There are also accountants who specialize in dealing with homebased businesses specifically in the direct-selling industry.

Don't quit your day job...yet. Never leave your full-time position unless you're absolutely certain that the income that's coming in with this company is going to be there. [Be sure that] you've been with the company [for awhile] and that you know it's a stable company, and the income that you're earning is equal to or greater than the income you're earning from your job before quitting.

STEPS TO BUILD POSITIVE ATTITUDE

During childhood, we form attitudes that last a lifetime. Undoubtedly, it would be a lot easier and better to have acquired a positive attitude during our formative years. Does that mean if we acquire a negative attitude, whether by design or by default, we are stuck with it? Of course not. Can we change? Yes. Is it easy? Absolutely not.
How do you build and maintain a positive attitude?

¨ Become aware of the principles that build a positive attitude;
¨ Desire to be positive; and
¨ Cultivate the discipline and dedication to practice those principles

As adults, regardless of our environment, education and experience, who is responsible for our attitude?
We are. We have to accept responsibility some time in our lives. We blame everyone and everything but ourselves. It is up to us to choose our attitude every morning. As adults, we need to accept responsibility for our behavior and actions.
People with negative attitudes will blame the whole world, their parents, teachers, spouse, the economy and the government for their failures.
You have to get away from the past. Dust yourself off, get back into the mainstream. Put your dreams together and move forward. Thinking of the positive things that are true, honest and good, will put us in a positive state of mind.
If we want to build and maintain a positive attitude, we need to consciously practice the following steps:

Step 1: Change Focus, Look for the Positive

We need to become good finders. We need to focus on the positive in life. Let's start looking for what is right in a person or situation instead of looking for what is wrong. Because of our conditioning, we are so attuned to finding fault and looking for what is wrong that we forget to see the positive picture.
Even in paradise, fault finders will find faults. Most people find what they are looking for. If they are looking for friendship, happiness and the positive, that is what they get. If they are looking for fights or indifference, then that is what they get. Caution looking for the positive does not mean overlooking faults.

Step 2: Make a Habit of Doing It Now

We have all procrastinated at some time in our lives. I know I have, only to have regretted it later. Procrastination leads to a negative attitude. The habit of procrastination fatigues you more than the effort it takes to do it.
A completed task is fulfilling and energizing; an incomplete task drains energy like a leak from a tank.
If you want to build and maintain a positive attitude, get into the habit of living in the present and doing it now.

Step 3: Develop an Attitude of Gratitude

Count your blessings, not your troubles. Take time to smell the roses. It is not uncommon to hear that someone, because of an accident or illness, became blind or paralyzed but won a million dollars in settlement. How many of us would like to trade places with that person? Not many. We are so focused on complaining about things we don't have that we lose sight of the things we have. There is a lot to be thankful for.
When I say count your blessings, not your troubles, the message is not to become complacent. If complacence was the message you got, then I would be guilty of faulty communication and you of selective listening.

Step 4: Get into a Continuous Education Program

Let's get some myths out of the way. It is a general belief that we get educated in schools and colleges. I run seminars in many different countries and ask my audiences all the time, "Do we really get educated in schools and colleges?" Generally, there is a consensus that some do but most don't. We receive a lot of information in schools and colleges. Don't get me wrong. We do need information to be educated. But we need to know the true meaning of education.

Intellectual education influences the head and values based education influences the heart. In fact, education that does not train the heart can be dangerous. If we want to build character in our offices, homes and society, we must achieve a minimum level of moral and ethical literacy. Education that builds fundamental traits of character--such as honesty, compassion, courage, persistence and responsibility--is absolutely essential. We don't need more academic education; we need more values education. I would stress that a person who is morally educated will be a lot better equipped to move up in life or succeed than a morally bankrupt person with excellent academic qualifications. Character building and teaching values and ethics come in the formative years because a child is not born with this knowledge.

Step 5: Build a Positive Self-Esteem

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem is the way we feel about ourselves. When we feel good within, our performance goes up, our relationships improve both at home and at work. The world looks nicer. What is the reason? There is a direct correlation between feeling and behavior.

How Do We Build Positive Self-Esteem?

If you want to build positive self-esteem quickly, one of the fastest ways is to do something for others who cannot repay you in cash or kind.

Step 6: Stay Away from Negative Influences

Today's teenagers learn from adult behavior and the media. They face peer pressure. Peer pressure is not just limited to teenagers, it is also prevalent in adults. It shows a lack of self-esteem when people do not have the courage to say "No, thank you," and stay away from negative influences; such as Negative people, Smoking,Drug Abuse,Drinking excessive Alcohol,Pornography,Negative Movies and Television Programs, Profanity,to mention just but few.

Step 7: Learn to Like the Things That Need to be Done

Some things need to be done whether we like them or not; for example, mothers caring for their young. They may not be fun and games, and may even be painful. But if we learn to like the task, the impossible becomes possible.St. Francis of Assisi once said "Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible."

Step 8: Start Your Day with a Positive

Read or listen to something positive first thing in the morning. After a good night's sleep we are relaxed and our subconscious is receptive. It sets the tone for the day, and puts us in the right frame of mind to make every day a positive day. In order to bring about change, we need to make a conscious effort Andre committed to make positive thoughts and behavior part of our lives. Practice having positive thoughts and behavior daily until they become a habit.

The famous French Philosopher Blaise Pascal was once approached by someone. The visitor said, “If I had your brains, I would be a better person.” Pascal replied, “Be a better person and you will have my brains.”
Most of our attitude is shaped during our formative years. There are primarily three ‘E’ factors that determine our attitude –Environment, Experience and Education. In a positive environment, a marginal performer’s out put goes up. In a negative environment, a good performer’s output goes down. Similarly, if you have a positive experience with person, our attitude towards him becomes positive and vice versa. And finally, education ought to teach not only how to make a living but also how to live.

Absence of negativity alone does not make a person positive. People with positive attitudes have certain personality traits that are easy to recognize. They are caring, confident, patient and humble. They have high expectations of themselves and others. They anticipate positive outcomes.
A balloon when released goes up not because of its colour or shape, it is what is inside that makes it go up. The same application can be found in our lives. It is what is inside that count. The thing inside of us that makes us go up is our attitude.

Change focus, look for the positive. We need to become good finders, we need to focus on the positive in life. Let’s start looking for what is right in a person or situation, instead of looking for what is wrong. Because of our conditioning, we are so attuned to finding fault and looking for what is wrong that we forget to see the positive picture. There is something positive in every person and every situation. Sometimes we have to dig deep to look for the positive because it may not be apparent. Besides, we are so used to looking for what is wrong with other people and situations that we forget to see what is right. Someone once said that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Stay away from negative influences. If you want to soar like an eagle, you have to learn the ways of an eagle. If you associate with achievers, you will become one. If you associate with thinkers, you will become one. If you associate with givers, you will become one. If you associate with complainers, you will become one. Whenever people succeed in life, petty people will take cracks at them and try to pull them down. In order to fight petty people, you have to come down to their level. Don’t let negative people drag you down. When you refuse to fight petty people, you win. Remember, a person’s character is not only judged by the company he or she keeps but also by the company he or she avoids.Learn to like the things that need to be done. Some things need to be done whether we like them or not.   • When Napolean command his army to cross Alps, they said “it was impossible” Napolean replied, “the word impossible is written in the dictionary of fools.”

The answer is positive attitude.

There is an intimate link between success & positive attitude. No one who has ever been successful has in his journey ever said ‘quite’. No one who has ever been successful has ever lost hope in his journey to success. No one who has said ‘impossible’ to a task has ever gone on to make it possible. But the contrary is often true:

অর্থই আমাদের জীবনের একমাত্র গুরুত্বপুর্ণ বিষয়।বাস্তব জীবনে অর্থ ছারা একবিন্দুও অগ্রসর হতে পারি না।অর্থনৈ্তিক স্বাধীনতা যত রকম সুযোগ-সুবিধের দরকার তার সবকিছুই এর মাধ্যমে করা সম্ভব। অন্যান্য ব্যবসা বা পেশার মাধ্যমে এত দ্রূত গতিতে অর্থনৈ্তিক মুক্তি লাভ করা কিছুতেই সম্ভব নয় বরং তাতে রয়েছে অধিক ঝুকি,অনিশ্চয়তা ও সীমাহীন টেনশন,মাল্টি লেভেল মার্কেটিং এর কোন বালাই নেই।আজীবন আয়ের সুযোগ এবং একটা পর্যায়ে এসে আর্থিক নিরাপত্তা সৃস্টির সুযোগ হয়।আপনি কাজ বন্ধ করে দিলেও আপনার টিম কাজ করতে থাকে,তারমানে আপনার কাজ থেমে থাকেনা।এভাবেই আপনি জীবনব্যাপি আয়ের সুযোগ পেয়ে থাকেন।সুতরাং এক্ষেত্রে বলা যাই যে,এখানে আমরা একবার কাজ করি আজীবন আয়ের সুযোগ পাই।মূ্লত এতেই আমাদের অর্থনৈ্তিক স্বাধীনতা পথ তৈ্রি হয়ে যায়।

২১ শতকের মার্কেটিংয়ে নতুন বিপ্লব ঘটাচ্ছে নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং


আমার এই লেখা তাদের জন্য যারা নিজেদেরকে নতুন এবং আন্তর্জাতিক আবিস্কার ও সুযোগ গুলোকে গ্রহন করতে চায় । আজকে প্রমানিত যে সারা পৃথিবীতেই যখন কোন কিছু নতুন আবিস্কার হয় তখন প্রথমেই তা কেউ গ্রহন করে না কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে তা ছাড়া চলেও না । যেমন- রাইট্ ব্রাদার্সদের বিমান আবিস্কার, প্রথমে সবাই হাসাহসি করলেও যোগাযোগের ক্ষেত্রে তারা নিয়ে আসে বৈপ্লবিক পরিবর্তন, পুরন হয় মনুষ্য জাতির আকাশ জয়। এছাড়া স্টিম ইঞ্জিনের আবিষ্কার, মার্কনির রেডিও আবিষ্কার সহ প্রতিটি বৈপ্লবিক আবিষ্কারই প্রথমে প্রচণ্ড সমালোচনায় এবং হাসাহাসির পর্যায় পড়েছে । পরবর্তীতে স্টিম ইঞ্জিনের আবিষ্কার আমাদের স্থল পথের যোগাযোগে দূরত্ব কমিয়ে আনে। মার্কনির রেডিও (সমসাময়িক সময়ে আমাদের স্যার জগদীশ চন্দ্র বসু রেডিও আবিষ্কার করেন)আমদেরকে যোগাযোগের অদৃশ্য মাধ্যমের সন্ধান দেয়, যা বর্তমানে একজন পাগলও তার সুবিধা ভোগ করছে। ইংরেজ আমলে আমরা রেল গাড়িকে প্রথমে গ্রহন করিনি কিন্তু আমাদের ভুল হয়ে ছিল বলে পরবর্তীতে তা গ্রহন করি, অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ট্রেনের টিকেট পাওয়া যায়না । এই যে কোন কিছুকে প্রথমে গ্রহন না করা, এটা আসলে না জানা বা না বোঝা বা যথেষ্ট জানার আগ্রহ না থাকা।

আমেরিকা নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিংয়ের সূতিকাগার। ১৯৩৯-৪০ সালের দিকে ক্যালিফোর্নিয়ায় ভিটামিন কোম্পানির কর্নধার ড. কার্ল রেইনবোর্গ তার উৎপাদিত স্বাস্থ্য রক্ষাকারী ভিটামিন ওষুধ ভোক্তাদের হাতে সরাসরি পেঁৗছানোর পরিকল্পনা নেন। তার এ ধারণা থেকেই নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিংয়ের জন্ম। তারপর কেটে যায় প্রায় দেড়যুগ। ১৯৫৮ সালে মার্কিন পার্লামেন্টে ৪২০/৪১০ ভোটের ব্যবধানে নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং পদ্ধতি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বৈধ ব্যবসা হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি লাভ করে।

আমেরিকানরা পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে নামকরা ব্যবসায়ী। কিন্তু আমেরিকার ব্যবসা জগতের ইতিহাস অত্যন্ত মর্মন্তুদ। অনেক নামকরা বিখ্যাত কোম্পানিও সেখানে দেউলিয়া ঘোষিত হয়ে পৃথিবীর ইতিহাস থেকে বিদায় নিয়েছে_ এরকম নজির যথেষ্ট। যেমন কিছুদিন আগে আমেরিকার বিখ্যাত বাণিজ্যিক গ্রুপ সিটি গ্রুপ মারাত্মক আর্থিক সংকটে পড়ে। সিটি গ্রুপের প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তার মাসিক বেতন ছিল পনের লাখ মার্কিন ডলার, যা বাংলাদেশি টাকায় দশ কোটি টাকারও বেশি। এরকম স্বনামধন্য বিখ্যাত কোম্পানিও আজ আর্থিক সংকটের সম্মুখীন। এ কোম্পানি গতানুগতিক ব্যবসা পদ্ধতিতে পরিচালিত। অতীতে যেসব কোম্পানি উন্নতির চরম শিখরে আরোহণ করার পরও টিকে থাকতে পারেনি তার সবই পুরনো পদ্ধতির ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান, নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং পদ্ধতির ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান নয়। এমনকি গতানুগতিক পুরনো পদ্ধতিতে পরিচালিত সফল ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান মাইক্রোসফট করপোরেশনও অনেক সময় তাদের উন্নয়ন সম্পর্কে ভীত হয়ে পড়ে। কারণ তাদের মতো অন্য অনেকের ব্যবসায় ব্যর্থতা তাদেরও গভীরভাবে চিন্তামগ্ন করে তোলে। কিন্তু তাদের সামনে সগৌরবে মাথা উঁচু করে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে বিশ্বে নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং ব্যবসার সফলতার প্রতীক এমওয়ে করপোরেশন_ পদ্ধতিগত সফলতার কারণে তারা ব্যবসায়ে কোনো রকম ধস নামার আশঙ্কায় শংকিত নয়।

এশিয়ার অনেক দেশ যেমন_ ভারত, পাকিস্তান, ইউনাইটেড আরব আমিরাত, মালয়েশিয়া, বাংলাদেশসহ অনেক দেশে নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং আজ ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়তা অর্জন করেছে। মালয়েশিয়ার উসানা কোম্পানি সে দেশের সর্ববৃহৎ নেটওয়ার্ক কোম্পানি হিসেবে খ্যাতিমান। ভারতে প্রায় দুই হাজার ছোট-বড় কোম্পানি নেটওয়ার্ক মার্কেটিং পদ্ধতিতে ব্যবসা করে যাচ্ছে এবং সেখানকার কয়েকটি কোম্পানি বাংলাদেশেও তাদের ব্যবসা সম্প্রসারণ করছে।
